What goes wrong with day sleep
Three things, usually. Noise: neighbours, deliveries, traffic and phones are all louder in the morning than at midnight. Light: even with blinds, daylight leaks. Schedule: a rotating rota means your sleep window moves, and a fixed-night rota means it collides with everyone else's day. An app cannot fix light or the rota, but it can cover the noise and make the routine repeatable.
Sound for daytime rooms
ShiftSleep AI generates white, brown, pink and green noise plus rain, fan, AC and ocean live on your phone. Brown noise covers the low rumble of a daytime street; white noise covers voices; the mixer lets you layer them and save the mix that works for your room. Because the sound is generated rather than replayed there is no loop point, and because nothing is streamed it works with no signal — including in hospital basements and break rooms.
- Deep Sleep preset: brown noise and soft rain, one tap after shift
- Mixer with per-layer level, mute and solo; save favorites
- Sleep timer with fade-out — 15 to 90 minutes or all day
- Two-second soft start; controlled peak output
- Offline, no ads
Shift profiles and sleep logging
Set up a shift profile for the way you actually work: fixed nights, rotating, early or on-call. The profile carries your usual sleep window, so Home can show "Sleep · 08:00–15:00" and the wake-up that goes with it. Logging is one tap for a day sleep or a recovery nap, and the log builds insights from real sessions — which windows you protect, which keep collapsing, how recovery naps fit between fragmented shifts.
If your rota changes week to week, switch profiles from Home. Guest mode keeps profiles and logs on your device; an account syncs them across devices.
AI help for your rota
Describe your schedule and what usually helps, and the AI sleep helper returns a playable mix and a short wind-down routine — for example, a routine for flipping from night week to day week on a rotating rota. It is calm, practical guidance grounded in the sessions you have logged. It is not medical advice and does not diagnose sleep disorders; if your sleep problems persist, talk to a clinician.
Free for the essentials
Free includes core sounds, a two-layer mixer, the sleep timer and one shift profile. Premium unlocks the full sound catalog, four mixer layers, multiple profiles and the AI helper, billed weekly, monthly or yearly through Apple or Google.
Frequently asked questions
Is ShiftSleep only for nurses?
No. It is built for anyone who sleeps during the day: nurses, doctors, paramedics, security, warehouse and factory night crews, drivers, pilots, and rotating-shift workers in any industry.
Can it handle a rotating shift schedule?
Yes. Create a profile for each pattern you work — fixed nights, rotating, early, on-call — and switch between them from Home. Sleep logs stay attached to the profile.
Does the app wake me up?
The sleep timer fades sound out; wake-ups and reminders are tied to your shift profile's sleep window. Notifications must be allowed for the app.
Is this medical advice?
ShiftSleep AI supports rest and routine with sound and simple logging. It is not medical advice and does not diagnose or treat sleep disorders. If your sleep problems persist, talk to a clinician.
