Pink noise

Pink noise: the balanced middle for day sleep.

Pink noise falls off by three decibels per octave — half as steeply as brown, so it keeps some brightness while losing the hiss of white. Many people describe it as the most natural of the three, like steady rain or wind. ShiftSleep AI generates it live and lets you blend it with the other colors.

What pink noise sounds like

If white noise is a detuned radio and brown noise is a waterfall heard from inside, pink noise is rain on a roof: full, warm, with a gentle top end. Technically, each octave carries equal energy, which happens to match how human hearing perceives loudness across the range. That is why pink often feels "flatter" and more even to the ear than white does, even though white is the mathematically flat one.

Pink noise in ShiftSleep AI

Pink Noise is a free-tier generator. Tap it to play alone, or open the mixer and set it as one of your layers. It pairs well with Fan or AC for a home-appliance feel, or with Ocean if you want the level to breathe slowly rather than stay perfectly steady.

Like every sound in the app it is procedural. No file, no loop, no download beyond the app itself, and it keeps playing with no connection.

  • Pink Noise generator, live and seamless
  • Mix with White or Brown to shape the spectrum to your room
  • Rain, Fan, AC, Ocean and more as companion layers
  • Sleep timer with soft fade-out and two-second soft start
  • Saved favorites for one-tap play after the next shift
  • Offline, no ads

When to reach for pink instead of white or brown

Pink is a good starting point when you do not yet know what is waking you. It covers a wide band without emphasizing the harsh top end that some people find tiring in white noise, and without the heaviness of brown. If after a few day sleeps you notice voices still get through, add a White layer; if it is thumps and traffic, add Brown. The mixer makes both a one-tap change.

Day sleep, not just night sleep

ShiftSleep AI is built for people whose bedtime is 8 a.m. Shift profiles record whether you work fixed nights, rotating, early or on-call shifts, and sleep logging is a single tap for a day sleep or a recovery nap. The AI helper can suggest a mix and a short wind-down for your rota — informational only, not medical advice.

ShiftSleep AI supports rest and routine with sound and simple logging. It is not medical advice and does not diagnose or treat sleep disorders. If your sleep problems persist, talk to a clinician.
